Baptiste Penetticobra (born 19 April 1991, France) holds a Master’s in Photography and Video Art from l’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. His work has been exhibited at the French art foundation le Palais de Tokyo and at the Centre Pompidou, where he received a production grant for his film For Real, tho (2016), a short about its own spectators’ relationship to fiction. For Real tho (2016) has been screened and gained special mentions at several festivals and exhibitions in the United States and throughout Europe.

Baptiste was recently in residence at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles, were he exhibited Home, Hood, Hills, a body of work (photography, object and installation) about the presence and purpose of language as it appears on signage in the streetscape of the city, as well as a book of photographs questioning notions of monuments and memorial as related to the shooting locations of Hollywood productions. Baptiste’s work primarily focuses on prosaic environments and their relationship to fiction, signs and narrative, in which video consists of a series of climatic and spatial images whereas photography works as extensions or appendixes of those territories. He currently lives and works in Paris.

Baptiste Penetticobra (né le 19 avril 1991 en France) est diplômé d’un master en Photographie et Vidéo de l’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. Son travail a déjà été exposé au Palais de Tokyo ou encore au Centre Pompidou, où il a tourné et diffusé son film For Real, tho (2016), un court-métrage qui interroge la relation du spectateur à la fiction. For Real tho (2016) a participé à plusieurs expositions à travers les Etats-Unis et l’Europe. Il a été projeté dans plusieurs festivals dont Clermont-Ferrand et Aesthetica short film festival où il a obtenu des mentions spéciales et prix.

Récemment, Baptiste a été invité en résidence au MAK Center for Art and Architecture de Los Angeles, où il a exposé Home, Hood, Hills, un ensemble d’œuvres (photographies, objets et installations) portant sur la présence et la raison d'être du langage tel qu'il apparaît dans le paysage urbain de la Los Angeles; ainsi qu'un recueil de photographies qui explore les notions de monuments et de mémorial en relation aux lieux de tournage des productions hollywoodiennes. Le travail de Baptiste se concentre principalement sur les environnements prosaïques et leur relation à la fiction, aux signes et à la narration, dans lesquels la vidéo consiste en une série d'images climatiques et spatiales alors que la photographie agit comme extension ou annexe de ces territoires.

Actuellement, il vit et travaille à Paris.
