Even though Thomas is recognized as a talented director today, he wasn't destined for filmmaking. After studying political science, he began to work in distribution and then in documentary production.

But his passion for the 7th art took over and, encouraged by his brother, the cinematographer David Cailley, Thomas joined the prestigious film school La Fémis. He quickly made a name for himself, particularly with his short film Paris Shanghaï, which was warmly welcomed at the festivals where it was shown.

Then you know the story: his film - a graduation project - Les Combattants (Love at First Fight), was selected for the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs de Cannes in 2014 and won 9 César nominations the following year. A success for both critics and public: the film received three nominations, Best Actress for Adèle Haenel, Best Emerging Talent for Kevin Azaïs and Best Debut Film for Thomas.

Prolific writer, he went into writing and directing a TV series for Arte right after, in 2016. Ad Vitam received the award for Best French Series 2018, and is one of the 5 world series selected at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018.

He is currently working on his second feature film and joined Frenzy to direct commercials at the same time.
